Less than FOUR Months to go until Oktoberfest Brisbane!

Not six months… not five months but just under FOUR months to go until this year’s Oktoberfest Brisbane! It’s time to start planning your outfits, getting the group together and practising your ‘Schunkel’…

So what do you need to know about this year’s German Festival?

Starting in true Munich style, the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Hon. Graham Quirk, will ceremoniously tap the first keg at the traditional ‘Anzapfen’ opening Graham Quirkceremony. From there Oktoberfest Brisbane is officially open and merry-makers are free to enjoy the delights of German food and beverages and enjoy the yodellers, traditional dancers and cowbell ringers showing off their skills in the Oktoberfest Tent. If you’re after a more chilled-out vibe, the Biergarten transports you to Munich with authentic wooden tables and benches on the grass, grand old trees and fairy lights at night. Or enjoy the Spring sun’s rays in our Marktplatz Market Square. So kick back and enjoy the atmosphere!

If you’re planning on coming to Oktoberfest Brisbane during the day, our Oktoberfest Tent has 3,222 metres of Bavarian blue and white ceiling bunting that’s a whole lot of material… and a whole lot of shaded tables catering for even more Australians embracing their inner German! Last year we saw a record number of our visitors dressing up in traditional German clothing, we even have Lederhosen and Dirndls on sale from one of our stall holders – Schnucki.

You’ll be shown how to dance like a German, dress like a German, speak like a German, cook like a German and learn all about German culture at the displays and shows on offer throughout the festival. And with 47 hours of LIVE music performances by our Bavarian Oktoberfest Band, yodellers and cowbell ringers you’ll be a pro at all the traditional German dances!

Stay tuned for more new activities coming your way in 2014!

Entertainment galore at Oktoberfest Brisbane

Entertainment Galore at Oktoberfest Brisbane!

Yodeller entertainment Oktoberfest BrisbaneEntertainment for our extended German family, that’s everyone coming to Oktoberfest Brisbane, is what we do best!

For two whole weekends in October, the Brisbane Showgrounds (RNA) is transformed into our very own slice of Germany, with entertainment at the top of our list! Entertainment for all ages will be on show at this year’s festival.

Oktoberfest Brisbane 2014 is the perfect opportunity to kick back after a busy week, relax in the ‘Munich Biergarten’ and listen to the band, which has been flown all the way from Munich!  That’s right, every year we fly our immensely popular German folk band – ‘Münchner Buam’, direct from the home of the original Oktoberfest.  This band knows how to rock – Bavarian style  – and will play all the traditional Oktoberfest and popular German folk festival tunes, creating an authentic atmosphere that simply can’t be replicated by anyone else.

In the Oktoberfest tent, the party never stops! We have great entertainment for the young to the ‘young at heart’. See, dance, sing, touch, learn, clap, ‘schunkel’ and laugh to all the shows, activities and competitions in our massive Oktoberfest Tent, German Connections Tent, Munich Biergarten, and Kinder-Zone.

A taste of the entertainment on offer:

  • Yodelling masters, Heidi and Adeline, will transport you to the mountains of Germany with their amazing talents. Get involved in their crowd sing-a-long or discover your cowbell ringing skills… will you be lucky enough to be picked from the audience this year?
  • Traditional German dancing, leg slapping and cow bell ringing from the popular Alpenrosen Dance Group. Join in the Hat Dance – looks easy, but it gets tricky!
  • ‘Schunkel’ to your heart’s content! Link arms with your neighbour and sway in time to the music, or try the ‘advanced’ version… left, right, up and down..

So come by yourself, with your friends or family and head to the Oktoberfest Tent, the German Connections Tent, or laze about in the Munich Biergarten and just let the music wash over you.

And why not dress up as well! Here at Oktoberfest Brisbane we always encourage traditional German dress… it is the biggest German Festival in Australia after all! This is JUST what’s on in the Oktoberfest Tent… wait until you see all we have on stage in the German Connections Tent and outside in the Kinder-Zone!

Largest German Festival

The LARGEST German Festival in Australia!

Oktoberfest Brisbane 2014, the largest German Festival in Australia is back for our seventh year and will be bigger and better than ever!

Last year we saw more than 36,000 visitors ‘embrace their inner German’ and experience the fabulous German food, traditions, culture and fun that Oktoberfest Brisbane delivers every year.

Traditional yodellerWhy is Oktoberfest Brisbane so popular with so many people? Well for starters it’s our authenticity. Everything we do; every plate of food, every entertainer and every bench-seat is typically German (the are the SAME bench-seats used at Munich’s Oktoberfest)! Our authentic Oktoberfest Tent, with its traditional wooden flooring, ceiling wreaths, bunting and decorations are exactly what you’d find in Germany – and most come from Germany. Even our handcrafted beers are brewed according to the German Purity Law, packed with flavour and made only for our German Festival – you’ll find them nowhere else in the world. Our visitors really do get to experience Germany right here on their doorstep. They have such a great time and the word of mouth is enormous.

Our visitors love to sit back and enjoy the traditional music of our Bavarian Oktoberfest Band flown in from Munich, Germany or the entertainment on stage from traditional dancers, cowbell ringers, German-style puppet theatre, and our yodelling masters Heidi and Adeline.

Social media has become a huge part of spreading the Oktoberfest Brisbane story – people love to share their photos of dressing up in the traditional dirndl and lederhosen, dancing the Fliegerlied, and tackling a huge pork knuckle with sauerkraut.

Oktoberfest Brisbane offers everyone the chance to learn about German culture and history, and celebrate Oktoberfest at the same time. There’s fun for the whole family; relax in the authentic Munich Biergarten, be entertained by the band and shows, see the latest German tracht fashion (traditional German costume) and enjoy multiple rides and activities right across the festival at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
