Reinheitsgebot {Bavarian Purity Law}

Reinheitsgebot: A tradition we still taste 500 years on

Every time we take a sip of German beer, a raft of unique but familiar qualities are revealed that take us right back to the first time we visited Bavaria.

It’s there in Germany’s world-renowned beer capital, which houses more than half of the nation’s famous breweries {Brauereien}, where a practice to ensure beer quality was born that we still taste half a millennium later.

It is also the oldest food law. Das Reinheistgebot {Bavarian Purity Law} enforces that four (and only four) key ingredients can be used to brew fine German beer: water, malt, hops and yeast. Learn about the historic Beer Purity Law at the interactive and sensory walk-through exhibition at Oktoberfest Brisbane, 1516: Das Reinheitsgebot.

Take a walk through the history of the Bavarian Purity Law to celebrate its 500+ years of existence. Learn about the four key ingredients and the impact this law has had on German beer (and ultimately, Oktoberfest Brisbane) in an engaging and interactive exhibition for everyone.
