Not six months… not five months but just under FOUR months to go until this year’s Oktoberfest Brisbane! It’s time to start planning your outfits, getting the group together and practising your ‘Schunkel’…
So what do you need to know about this year’s German Festival?
Starting in true Munich style, the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Hon. Graham Quirk, will ceremoniously tap the first keg at the traditional ‘Anzapfen’ opening ceremony. From there Oktoberfest Brisbane is officially open and merry-makers are free to enjoy the delights of German food and beverages and enjoy the yodellers, traditional dancers and cowbell ringers showing off their skills in the Oktoberfest Tent. If you’re after a more chilled-out vibe, the Biergarten transports you to Munich with authentic wooden tables and benches on the grass, grand old trees and fairy lights at night. Or enjoy the Spring sun’s rays in our Marktplatz Market Square. So kick back and enjoy the atmosphere!
If you’re planning on coming to Oktoberfest Brisbane during the day, our Oktoberfest Tent has 3,222 metres of Bavarian blue and white ceiling bunting that’s a whole lot of material… and a whole lot of shaded tables catering for even more Australians embracing their inner German! Last year we saw a record number of our visitors dressing up in traditional German clothing, we even have Lederhosen and Dirndls on sale from one of our stall holders – Schnucki.
You’ll be shown how to dance like a German, dress like a German, speak like a German, cook like a German and learn all about German culture at the displays and shows on offer throughout the festival. And with 47 hours of LIVE music performances by our Bavarian Oktoberfest Band, yodellers and cowbell ringers you’ll be a pro at all the traditional German dances!
Stay tuned for more new activities coming your way in 2014!
