We kicked off Oktoberfest Brisbane this year with our annual Opening Ceremony, Anzapfen – celebrating 12 years of German festival fun. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner did the honours of tapping the first keg which marked the official opening of 2019’s Festival and began the rounds of celebratory drinks beneath bursting clouds of confetti. Despite Friday’s wet weather, Brisbane was ready to dust off their Dirndls and Lederhosen to embrace their inner German, making the first weekend of the festival the enjoyable success that it was.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the sun made its debut and festivalgoers were welcomed to clear skies and cold steins, roaming around the showgrounds to see all the exciting new entertainment on offer this year. With each day of the festival offering new activities, there really was something for everyone. From face-painting to face-planting doughnuts, this weekend saw the showgrounds buzzing with smiles and high spirits – and with all the German treats on offer, there are so many delicious reasons to smile!
This year’s Miss Oktoberfest competition was one of many highlights of the weekend, with Brisbane’s best and brightest Fräuleins battling through 5 rounds of competition to be crowned Miss Oktoberfest Brisbane 2019! The fearless Fräuleins enthusiastically took on the challenge, giving it their best for each round of the competition. After various tense heats of everything from pretzel tossing to cow milking, one woman was left standing and crowned the winner of Miss Oktoberfest Brisbane 2019 – congratulations to Bree on her well-earned title!
Sounds like fun right? This barely scratches the surface on all that’s on offer at this year’s festival, and the good news is it’s all happening again this weekend, Oktober 18-20! So, if you’re experiencing serious #FOMO (fear of missing out), be quick to get your tickets for the FINAL weekend of this year’s Festival to see the magic for yourselves. We can’t wait to see you all there!
