Oktoberfest Brisbane 2016 Anzapfen, the official opening ceremony

It is here! Our opening ceremony with the official ‘tapping of the keg’, the Anzapfen.

This year will be the fifth consecutive year Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk taps the first keg of beer at Oktoberfest Brisbane, following a long-running Bavarian tradition to mark the launch of the festival.

This tradition has been celebrated at Oktoberfest in Munich for a century, with the city’s Lord Mayor tapping the first keg of beer and offering the first stein of beer to the Head of State, announcing “O’zapft is” (“It is tapped”).

Join us for the ceremonious event and help us get the celebration underway as the taps start flowing with beer specially-brewed for Oktoberfest Brisbane.

Take a visual trip down memory lane with Oktoberfest Brisbane’s past ‘tappers’.
